  • A mudslide damages as home after series of storms Friday Feb. 10 2017 in Orinda Calif

More than 50 people were rescued from rooftops because trees and power lines were blocking roads, including a mud-caked teenage girl who was pulled from the rubble of a collapsed home in Montecito after being trapped for hours.

Five of the bodies were found in Montecito, near Los Angeles, said Captain Dave Zaniboni of the Santa Barbara County Fire Department.

A winter weather advisory is in place for mountain areas, where officials warned motorists to prepare for hard travel conditions, including gusty winds, low visibility and snow-covered roads.

At least 15 people have been killed in the wildcat mudslides that have ripped through Santa Barbara in California, and rescue crews with dogs and thermal-imaging equipment are busy searching the hills around the wealthy Los Angeles suburb. Looking for missing persons. Meanwhile, AS WE SPEAK, her Montecito home's a staging ground for helicopter rescues. Flash flood warnings remain in effect for parts of Santa Barbara County.

Some undamaged businesses closed as they lacked water, gas and other supplies to operate.

Winfrey posted a video on Instagram showing her wading through almost knee-deep mud on her Montecito property. The town of about 9,000 people northwest of Los Angeles sustained heavy damage after mudslides slammed into homes, covered highways and swept away vehicles.

He also referenced Oprah's home nearby in another post and recent speculation she may run for president in 2020 after her speech at the Golden Globe Awards. On Tuesday, she took to Instagram and showed photos of the deep mud in her backyard and video of rescue helicopters flying over her house.

The number of fatalities surpassed the death toll from a California mudslide on January 10, 2005, when 10 people were killed as a hillside gave way in the town of La Conchita, less than 20 miles (30 km) south of the latest disaster.

That's where thousands of residents evacuated Monday over fears of destructive mudslides in areas where the state's largest-ever fire raged last month.
