  • CNN's Jake Tapper shuts down contentious interview with Trump aide Stephen Miller

Tapper on Sunday cut off his interview with Miller, as the two sparred about Trump and the news network.

Miller said the credit goes not to Bannon, but to Trump's first campaign manager, Corey Lewandowski.

"I think the viewers right now can ascertain who is being hysterical", Mr. Tapper responded.

After a relatively calm start to the segment, things took off when Miller began lashing out and at both host Jake Tapper and CNN.

A US TV journalist cut-off one of Donald Trump's White House advisers during a spiky interview, accusing the aide of "wasting enough of my viewers' time" after attacking the TV network he was appearing on.

Tapper wanted to know if Miller had any first-hand knowledge of the now-president meeting with the Russians who visited in Manhattan office building in June 2016.

"It's tragic and unfortunate that Steve would make these grotesque comments so out of touch with reality and obviously so vindictive", Miller said.

Mr. Miller denounced the book as "very poorly written fiction" and "garbage".

Tapper, fed up, responded he wasn't going to allow that, reminding Miller it actually is his show, and saying: "I don't want to do that", further enraging Miller. That exchange occurred in the White House briefing room, where Miller accused Acosta of having "cosmopolitan bias" for wrongly believing that Donald Trump's proposed immigration ban would prevent non-english speakers from coming to the United States. "And I think I have wasted enough of our viewer's time", the long time host told Miller.

'The president's tweets absolutely reaffirm the plainspoken truth: A self-made billionaire revolutionized reality TV and tapped into something magical that is happening in the hearts of this country, ' Miller said.

Mr. Miller also pushed back against the perception that Mr. Bannon, whose harsh criticism of Mr. Trump and his family in the book has caused a sharp falling-out with the president, had ever played a Svengali-like role as chief strategist in the White House and on the presidential campaign.

"Okay, you're not answering the questions", Tapper said. You are being obsequious right now, and you are being a factotum to please him, okay?
