Four policemen including an officer were killed in a powerful Improvised Explosive Device (IED) blast at Sopore market in north Kashmir's Baramulla district of Jammu and Kashmir on Saturday morning.

Deputy Chief Minister, Nirmal Singh also condemned the IED blast in which four police men were killed. 3 shops were also destroyed in the massive explosion.

The security forces launched cordon and search operation in the area after the blast but no arrests were made.

Authorities had deployed a large number of security forces in the market and other areas of Sopore to maintain law and order situation in the wake of the protest shutdown call given by the separatists.

Srinagar:Four policemen were killed in a blast in Sopore town of north Kashmir's Baramulla district on Saturday. "May the four courageous J&K police personnel killed in the line of duty today rest in peace", Abdullah tweeted. A local news gathering agency GNS quoting JeM spokesperson claimed that they have attacked the police party in Sopore.

But Khan said, "We will have to verify how authentic the statement is".

Militant outfit Jaish-e-Mohammad has claimed responsibility for the attack.

Several officers were injured and condition of one is said to be critical.

He said constable Ghulam Nabi has aged parents, pregnant wife, four-year-old daughter Faheeqa Nabi, two brothers and two unmarried sisters.
