Trump says USA has gotten 'nothing' from Pakistan aid

  • US President Donald Trump and Pakistan PM Shahid Khaqan Abbasi

Tillerson said he had asked the Pakistani leadership to take action against terror groups and said an enhancement in their capabilities may pose a threat to the government in Islamabad.

"I have openly said Pakistan took tremendous advantage of our country for many years, but we're starting to have a real relationship with Pakistan, and they're to respect us as a nation again, and so are other nations", he said at the time.

President Donald Trump threatened to end US foreign aid for Pakistan Monday in his first tweet of 2018 - a move that comes amid strained ties over America's decade-long war in Afghanistan.

According to the report, the USA has given Pakistan approximately $33 billion United States in aid since 2002.

The United States, has provided Pakistan with more than $33 billion Dollars in aid since 2002.

Earlier this month, Trump had already hinted that he may cut off the aid for good.

"They (US) are reinforcing their failure in Afghanistan by extending their military presence but only a peaceful solution is possible", he said adding that US should try to negotiate with Taliban in Afghanistan.

Kugelman noted Trump tweeted in October that relations with Pakistan were improving, when some experts suggested they were not.

"Pakistan has fought hard and suffered heavily against those terrorists focused on its government, and now we are asking them to focus on the terrorists that are attacking Afghanistan and attacking the coalition", he continued.

The group was responsible for kidnapping a Canadian-American couple and holding them from 2012 to 2017, when Pakistani forces secured their release in what they said was as a rescue operation but some United States officials reportedly described as a "negotiated handover". "They have to help", the USA president said.

Islamabad has repeatedly denied the accusations of turning a blind eye to militancy, lambasting the United States for ignoring the thousands who have been killed on its soil and the billions spent fighting extremists.

Trump said Sunday that the stock market will continue to rise and that companies are going to continue to come into the USA, at "a rapid clip". And we make massive payments every year to Pakistan.
