Rhian reveals Gibbs-White racist abuse

  • Liverpool Under-19 coach Steven Gerrard had to step in and calm Brewster down at full-time following the alleged abuse

In an interview with The Guardian, Brewster accused UEFA of not taking racism "seriously" and said it felt like occasions when he was on the receiving end of abuse during UEFA Youth League matches had been "brushed under the carpet" by European football's governing body.

The 17-year-old Brewster is one of the brightest talents to come through at Anfield in recent years and starred for England Under-17s as they became world champions in the summer. "I was on the floor and I had the ball in my hands". "I got fouled", he said.

Two of the alleged incidents happened while playing for England, including one in the World Cup final when teammate Morgan Gibbs-White was allegedly called a "monkey" by a Spain player. Then their player leaned over me, right down to my face and said: 'Suck my d***, you n*****, you n****'.

Brewster said: "Something happened in the box". He says he remembers a fellow player being called a "monkey" by a member of the opposition in the tournament final.

The English FA made representations to Uefa and Federation Internationale de Football Association regarding the allegations.

Klopp said: "All the support he needs, he wants".

And Brewster admitted the impact that such racist abuse has on him.

Brewster said he had initially had the feeling that he did not want to make a complaint because he feared that "nothing's going to happen". The next day I'll still be thinking about it.

Brewster claimed Uefa need to take racism more seriously in a national newspaper interview he requested, leading to messages of support from the likes of Match of the Day host Gary Lineker, politician Ed Miliband and chart star Stormzy. They don't really care.

The number of reports received to the organisation from the match is of great concern and Kick It Out expects the relevant authorities to investigate this serious incident as a matter of urgency, so it is concluded in a manner that shows zero tolerance towards racism or any other form of unacceptable discriminatory conduct.
