The caller stated that two Pit bulls attacked his sister-in-law and injured his brother.

Deputies said 66-year-old Lorraine Brock Saylor and her husband were "savagely attacked" by pit bulls.

The husband was able to shoot both dogs, killing one.

The other dog ran off. Johnny Saylor called 911 but Lorraine was pronounced dead at the scene.

The statement didn't specify the man's injuries.

The Bell County Sheriff's Department determined the dogs do not belong to the couple. The couple's names weren't immediately released.

"Under no circumstances are you to engage this risky animal", the sheriff's department said.

The owner of the dogs, Johnny Dale Lankford, 42, had been in a local detention center after being charged Friday with domestic violence and unlawful imprisonment.

"They had my brother halfway out the door, chewing on his arm", said James Saylor, Johnny Saylor's brother.

Bell County Sheriff Mitch Williams is asking the community to be alert and on the lookout for a brown pit bull.

He heard barking from his house next door.

"They were just a super nice couple and I can't even begin to put myself in his shoes, it's overwhelming the circumstances and what he found", Steele told WYMT.

"It's odd, ain't it, but you know, when your time comes, it comes", he said.

Also responding to the scene was Bell County EMS, Bell County Coroner Jay Steele, Bell County Animal Control Officer Patsy Bracken and assistance from the Kentucky State Police Post 10. According to Steele, the pit bulls belong to the Saylors' neighbors, although there hasn't been an official confirmation of this fact.
