NORAD also has a Facebook page set up for tracking Santa.

In addition to finding Santa's location, mobile app users can also learn more about the history of Santa and learn about Christmas and other holiday traditions around the world.

The North American Aerospace Defense Command has been tracking the guy in the red suit since December 1 and parents can use the NORAD Tracks Santa website, www.noradsanta.org, to help keep little ones busy until December 25. The website is available in eight languages: English, French, Spanish, German, Italian, Japanese, Portuguese and Chinese. NORAD's "Santa Cams" will stream videos on the website as jolly old St. Nick makes his way over various locations. Trackers worldwide can speak with a live phone operator to get Santa's whereabouts by calling toll-free 1-877-HI NORAD (1-877-446-6723).

In 1955, a Colorado Springs-based Sears, Roebuck & Co. advertisement misprinted the telephone number for children to call Santa.

The hotline will be open at 6 a.m.

NORAD uses its satellite systems, high-powered radar, and jet fighters to track Santa each year. Bing and Cortana users can also find Santa's location. Instead of calls ringing to Santa, the phone number rang the Commander-in-Chief of the Continental Air Defense Command (CONAD), the precursor to NORAD. NORAD took over in 1958.

The Eastern Air Defense Sector is a North American Aerospace Defense Command (NORAD) headquarters unit located at the Griffiss Business and Technology Park in Rome, New York.
