Putin calls to thank Trump for Central Intelligence Agency tip that prevented terror attack

Vladimir Putin has reportedly thanked Donald Trump after the Central Intelligence Agency provided information to help prevent a series of terrorist bombings in Russian Federation.

The Kremlin said it led Russia's top domestic security agency to a group of suspects that planned to bomb St. Petersburg's Kazan Cathedral and other crowded sites this weekend.

The Federal Security Service said Friday that seven members of a terror cell had been detained for their involvement in the plot, and that "a significant amount of explosives", weapons and "extremist literature" were confiscated.

The call was the second phone conversation between Putin and Trump since Thursday, when the Kremlin said they discussed U.S.

"This is a very encouraging signal that gives grounds to hope for the resumption of information exchange between the special services of Russia and the United States, which is necessary for an effective fight against terrorism", Dzhabarov, who serves as the first deputy chairman of the Russian upper house's International Affairs Committee, said.


The White House said the foiled attack could have killed "large numbers of people". U.S. intelligence agencies have previously concluded that Russian Federation tried to meddle in the 2016 presidential election in an effort to help Trump get elected.

The White House added that Putin extended his thanks and congratulations to CIA Director Mike Pompeo and the entire agency.

United States insight offices have beforehand inferred that Russian Federation endeavored to interfere in the 2016 presidential race with an end goal to enable Trump to get chose.

On Tuesday, FSB chief Alexander Bortnikov said Russian Federation was on alert for the possible return of jihadists from Syria ahead of the World Cup and the presidential election in 2018.

The White House said that the two leaders agreed in Sunday's phone call that the co-operation was "an example of the positive things that can occur when our countries work together".
