Palestinian Report: IDF forces kill two militants in Gaza Strip

  • Police in Bethlehem face off against rioters angry at Donald Trump's decision to recognise Jerusalem as the capital of Israel

The rocket launches in the direction of Israel from the Gaza Strip were resumed after a three-month break after US President Donald Trump ordered to transfer the US embassy in Tel Aviv to Jerusalem on December 6 and recognized the city as the capital of the Jewish state.

Reports from Gaza's Hamas-controlled Health Ministry said Tuesday that two Palestinians were killed in what was described as an assassination by an Israeli military drone.

The latest one, code-named Operation Protective Edge, took place in the summer of 2014 and resulted in the deaths of more than 2,200 Palestinians. The Israeli military had no immediate comment.

Tensions along Israel's border with the Gaza Strip flared up Monday, capping a week of rocket fire at Israel by terror groups and responses in turn from the army.

On Thursday, Israel also targeted Gaza sites with air strikes and tank fire after what a military statement described as "a projectile" was sacked into southern Israel.

The terrorists fired one rocket towards the city of Ashkelon, triggering the siren system in the Hof Ashkelon Regional Council. A third rocket was intercepted by an Iron Dome system.

The circumstances of the incident, which occurred near Gaza's northern border with Israel, were initially unclear.

The tunnel destroyed on Sunday ran hundreds of meters into Israeli territory and, though unfinished, was a new project that showed "a significant effort by Hamas", military spokesman Lieutenant-Colonel Jonathan Conricus told reporters.

Hamas last week called for a new intifada against Israel and urged Palestinians to confront soldiers and settlers, allowing thousands of Gazans to confront Israeli troops at the Gaza border fence in recent days.
