  • Trump Lashes Out At 'FAKE NEWS' Washington Post Over Misleading Photo

Trump fired off a pair of tweets attacking Post reporter Dave Weigel over a "phony photo" of an empty arena ahead of his Friday rally in Pensacola, Florida. The post included photos of the Pensacola venue as Trump spoke.

Trump also demanded Weigel apologize for publishing a photo of the empty arena as it had been made hours before the president's arrival and many people had not come yet. "FAKE NEWS, he should be fired", Trump tweeted on Saturday night, despite the fact that Weigel had already corrected the tweet before the president's follow-up post. "They were caught red handed, just like lonely Brian Ross at ABC News (who should be immediately fired for his "mistake")", Trump tweeted in response.

Trump posted a screengrab of Weigel's Tweet on Saturday, along with photos of him standing in front of a packed arena.

CNN also found itself Trump's target when the president blasted the outlet Saturday for reporting Friday that Trump's eldest son, Donald Trump Jr., received an email on September 4, 2016, offering him WikiLeaks documents obtained through the Democratic National Committee hack.

Weigel publicly heckled Trump using what he knew was fake news.

CNN, in another tweet, he said, is the "least trusted name in news".

"When others pointed out the mistake to Weigel, he quickly deleted the tweet".

The Post reporter, David Weigel, had earlier tweeted a photo of the crowd gathered at Pensacola Bay Center for Trump's speech there Friday evening, showing numerous empty seats. "Watch to see if fires those responsible, or was it just gross incompetence?" he asked.

Trump in recent days has taken advantage of a handful of journalistic errors to take aim at specific reporters and outlets. Except when you're Trump, who has throughout his tenure has refused to back down from even the most obvious falsities. Though Weigel has gotten into (overblown) trouble for private comments criticizing conservatives in the past, he is still a widely respected journalist, and there is no reason to presume, as Trump did, that he was knowingly trying to misrepresent Trump's crowd size or was manufacturing fake photos to do so. "You should have been apologizing for the last two years", Trump said to laughter and cheers at a rally in Florida.
