Olivier Giroud salvages late point for Arsenal at Southampton

Only two Arsenal players have scored more goals in their first 15 Premier League appearances for the club than Alexandre Lacazette (8) - Alexis Sanchez (9) and Ian Wright (10).

Ever since Arsenal's 3-1 home defeat to Manchester United, last Saturday, Alan Shearer has been inundated with messages from hysterical Gunners fans who were apoplectic for the former Newcastle United captain's analysis of their loss to Jose Mourinho's men.

But even Giroud, who is yet to start a league game this season, has been warned by Les Bleus assistant manager Guy Stephan that he needs to play more - even if Wenger feels the 31-year-old has had ample opportunity so far this campaign.

"We were relentless, after a hard start we were caught cold and overall it was a windy, rainy afternoon against a team who played well and were quick on the counter-attack".

Unfortunately for Wenger, it appears his words went unheeded.

A poor clearance from Mertesacker conceded possession deep inside his own half and then slipped as he attempted to make up for his mistake, allowing Dusan Tadic the time and space to pick out Austin's run into the box where the striker finished from 12 yards out.

Theo Walcott and Jack Wilshere had both impressed in that win but Wenger adjudged that neither had done enough to force their way into his starting line-up.

Forster got down to his left superbly to deny Ramsey from Ozil's cutback to the edge of the area, while Lacazette shanked wildly over towards the end of a breathless first half. Arsenal's defence was picked apart by Charlie Austin and co. Another must-win game for the Gunners, and Arsene Wenger will be taking very few chances at a venue which has traditionally been a banana skin for Arsenal in the past.

"Time wasting is a problem in England and referees have not found the solution yet".
