North Korea warns joint US-South Korea military drill risks nuclear war

  • S. Korea-US ready for air force joint drills against N. Korea's missile provocations

His comments came three days after North Korea carried out its first ballistic missile test in two months, in defiance of United Nations resolutions.

North Korea said the new missile soared to an altitude of about 4,475 km (2,780 miles), more than 10 times the height of the International Space Station, and flew 950 km during its 53-minute flight - higher and longer than any North Korean missile, before landing in the sea near Japan.

This is the first time that the U.S. has deployed six F-22 at one time in the Korean peninsula, which serves as another warning to Pyongyang after the latter launched a Hwasong-15 intercontinental ballistic missile - its most sophisticated missile to date - on Wednesday.

North Korean leader Kim Jong Un.

North Korea on Sunday blasted the United States and South Korea as "warmongers" on the eve of their largest-ever joint air exercise, saying it could trigger a nuclear war.

One U.S. intelligence official told Reuters the Hwasong-15 test appears to demonstrate a more powerful North Korean solid-fuel propulsion system, especially in its second-stage rocket.

Washington is battling to maintain worldwide solidarity in the face of the North nuclear threat after Russian Federation warned that sanctions have failed and China sidestepped talk of an oil embargo.

China, North Korea's ally, has in the past sought to block any discussion on human rights in North Korea, arguing that the Human Rights Council in Geneva was the forum for those concerns, and not the Security Council.

The unit, comprising 1,000 special forces troops, is modelled after the US Army Rangers, Delta Force, SEAL Team Six, and Green Berets, according to a report by the Korean Times newspaper. And, much to our regret, that they try to pull the Japanese and the South Koreans in the same direction.

Tensions on the Korean Peninsula escalated over the weekend as U.S. stealth fighters moved into the region and official sources from both North Korea and the United States said the chances of war are growing.

The ICBM Hwasong-15 type weaponry system used in Wednesday's test is an intercontinental ballistic rocket tipped with super-large heavy warhead capable of striking the whole mainland of the USA, the North said.

"The situation clearly proves that the U.S. and the South Korean puppet war maniacs are just aggressors and provocateurs breaking peace and stability on the Korean Peninsula".
