New Jersey was mildly rocked by a 4.1-magnitude natural disaster that struck 6 miles northeast of Dover, Delaware, on Thursday afternoon. The natural disaster hit at 4:47 p.m.

The quake, previously reported at magnitude 5.1 and then at 4.4, was centred in the Bombay Hook National Wildlife Refuge on Thursday.

Dr. Lucy Jones, a world-leading seismologist, said the natural disaster was an Intensity VI, which has the strength to throw objects from shelves and damage poorly built structures.

USGS Geophysicist Rafael Abreu said the natural disaster could be felt as far at 275 miles from the epicenter.

The Delaware quake is a rare seismological occurrence for the U.S. Northeast, officials said, with the temblor's strength equaling the estimated magnitude of an 1871 quake that was believed to be the largest ever in the state. Stay with FOX 5 for updates.

NEIC geophysicist John Bellini, located at the office in Golden Colo., said the quake originated six miles east/northeast of Dover, Del.

The Associated Press writes that downtown Dover was in a flurry as lawmakers and workers in the statehouse went outside to see what happened.

John Bellini, a geophysicist USGS's natural disaster information centre in Colorado, said any damage would be limited.

People said they felt shaking for about 10 seconds. Carberry, who is from the West Coast, said she told co-workers, "I'm pretty sure this is an natural disaster".

In Baltimore, the jolt was strong enough to send some people streaming out of buildings and into the streets.

And did you hear about the quake over the internet before you actually felt the natural disaster?

That quake, which occurred on August 23, forced the shutdown of the Washington Monument due to damage.
