President Donald Trump said Tuesday that Alabama voters must elect embattled Republican Senate candidate Roy Moore, who is facing multiple allegations of sexual misconduct, to prevent "liberal" Democrat Doug Jones from winning next month.

"Roy Moore denies it", he said.

At first Trump offered a standard attack on Jones as "terrible on borders, awful on the military". Moore, who initially appeared to be headed for an easy victory in a reliably Republican state, has trailed Jones in recent polls ahead of the December 12 election.

Trump repeatedly emphasized that Moore has denied the allegations brought against him. That's some law-and-order guy all right.

"I've looked at his record - it's bad on crime, it's awful on the border, it's bad on the military", Trump said of Moore's Democratic opponent, former U.S. Attorney Doug Jones. An appearance by the president did not work out too well for his original Alabama Senate candidate, Luther Strange.

"Forty years is a long time", Trump said, questioning why it took so long for Moore's accusers to come forward.

Six women have accused the Republican Moore of pursuing romantic relationships with them when they were teenagers and he was an assistant district attorney in his 30s. "He says it didn't happen".

President Trump, who has faced more than a dozen accusations of sexual misconduct himself, dismissed questions from reporters about him backing a man accused of sexual assault over a man who is a Democrat. But he has waded into other sexual assault allegations that have come to light recently against Democratic politicians, tweeting criticism of Sen.

"I'm telling you we want the votes in the Senate to get this tax bill through", she replied.

DuPré sought to cast doubt on Leigh Corfman, who has said Moore molested her when she was 14 years old. The October 2016 release of the "Access Hollywood" tape revealed that Trump bragged in in 2005 that he could grope and forcibly kiss women without their consent.

"We believe Judge Moore", Moore campaign strategist Dean Young said.
