  • Singapore passport has become the most powerful passport in the world

While Singapore has been rising up the ranks progressively, the U.S. passport has been sliding down the leaderboard since President Donald Trump took office. After Singapore, the next highest ranked nations are Germany, Sweden and South Korea.

The British passport holds some clout, but if you thought it was the most powerful in the world then you are sorely mistaken.

The new Singapore biometric passport design will feature new visa page designs as well as additional security features, said the Immigration & Checkpoints Authority (ICA) in a statement on Thursday (Oct 26).

Developed by global residence and citizenship advisory firm Arton Capital, the Passport Index is a free online interactive tool that sorts and ranks the world's passports by their cross-border access.

The annual Global Passport Power Rank for 2017 released by Arton Capital ranked passports according to the number of countries to which holders can travel visa-free.

The index shows that Singaporeans can travel to a whopping 159 countries visa-free or with visa on arrival.

The power of a USA passport has plummeted under President Donald Trump. This was the first time that an Asian country has topped the global ranking.

In 2015, the United States tied for first place with the United Kingdom; a year ago, it slipped to fourth place. "More and more people every year invest hundreds of thousands of dollars in a second passport to offer better opportunity and security for their families".

At the bottom of the list is Afghanistan, whose passport holders are limited to just 22 countries that allow them to breeze through borders without being subjected to heavy vetting. Denmark, Finland, Italy, France, Spain, Norway, Japan, United Kingdom (156)5.

"Most recently Turkey and the Central African Republic revoked their visa-free status to the United States", it said.
