  • Body Discovered Of a Missing Toddler Sherin Mathews, Adoptive Parents Arrested

People in the U.S. city of Richardson are mourning and angry over the tragic death of 3-year-old Indian girl Sherin Mathews, with many asking why her foster father did not wake his nurse wife when he knew that the toddler was chocking on milk and struggling to breathe. She cooperated with police to identify Sherin's body, he said.

A post mortem has been conducted on the child's body, but the medical examiner has yet to announce the exact cause of death. Mathews was previously charged with child endangerment but was free on bond and had to wear an ankle monitor.

Wesley has been charged with injury to a child, a felony punishable with a maximum 99 years in prison, Richardson police said.

"Eventually the 3-year-old girl began to drink the milk".

Mathews was initially charged with abandoning or endangering a child when he first reported Sherin missing. He said she was gone when he returned 15 minutes later and then, he went inside to do laundry, waiting for sunrise so he could continue searching for the little girl. "She was coughing and her breathing slowed", the affidavit said.

Perlich had earlier said police believe Sini was unaware of her husband's alleged punishment of the girl and that she was sleeping at the time. An investigator and search team said the little girl's clothed body was then found "a ways into the culvert", according to Perlich.

Mathews told police he knew coyotes had been seen in the alley where he told her to stay, the affidavit said.

A warrant issued against the father, Wesley Mathews, read, he "physically assisted" Sherin in drinking her milk when she wouldn't listen to him.

An attorney hired to represent Mrs. Mathews in any criminal defense matters said Wednesday he is no longer working for her. The couple described a special diet regimen that required her to eat whenever she was awake, in order to help her gain weight.

The adoptive father of a Texas 3-year-old who had been missing for two and a half weeks admitted to police that he disposed of the child's body after she choked on her milk, according to a probable cause affidavit released Tuesday. The girl will remain in foster care at least until that hearing or until a judge orders a change in custody.

He called police and reported her missing about 8 a.m. Police had also sought surveillance camera footage from neighbors and local businesses, saying they believed one of the family's cars- a maroon Acura SUV- had left the house between 4 and 5 a.m.
