The 2018 DB11 Volante Is Aston Martin's New Drop-Top V8 Cruiser

Aston Martin has pulled the covers off a convertible version of its DB11 grand tourer. The vehicle was also taken out to harsh real-world environments in Death Valley and the Arctic Circle for testing.
ASTON MARTIN has launched a stunning all-new luxury convertible, the DB11 Volante, which joins the DB11 Coupe which went on sale late a year ago. The combination of acoustic and insulation materials takes 14 seconds to lower and 16 to close, and can be used at speeds of up to 31 miles per hour with a 31 miles per hour headwind. The results? The DB11 Volante passed with flying colors.
Under the hood, meanwhile, there's a new 4.0-liter twin-turbo V8 engine. This setup allows the convertible to sprint from 0-62 miles per hour in 4.1 seconds before topping out at 187 miles per hour, making it only a tenth of a second slower off the line than the V8-powered coupe. The roof can be dropped using the key fob or on the move at up to 31mph. During the Life Cycle Durability (LCD) test, the roof was put through 100,000 cycles in special weather chambers. Torque is 513lb ft and the auto produces 255g/km CO2. While no mention has been made of a DB11 V12 Volante, this engine is offered with the coupe, so it's likely to follow in due course. For reference, the coupe is one tenth quicker to 62 and has the same electronically limited top speed. Being based on the coupe's aluminum platform, the DB11 Volante is lighter and more rigid than the outgoing DB9 Volante, and also benefits from a 20 percent gain in trunk volume. "The challenge of creating a convertible vehicle is retaining structural and dynamic integrity", Aston Martin Chief Technical Officer Max Szwaj explains.
The convertible DB11 variant joins the existing coupe model that launched previous year, powered by a new 4.0-liter twin-turbo V8 engine with 503 horsepower. "One that combines greater performance and agility with increased comfort, refinement and interior space for occupants and their luggage".
"The new DB11 Volante captures those qualities perfectly and promises the kind of pleasure and enjoyment that can only come from driving an open-top Aston Martin". From what we can see, Aston Martin has another stunner in its growing line-up.
