Mobile cuts LTE roaming in Canada and Mexico to 5GB

  • T-Mobile is about to add a new limit to its unlimited plans

One of the things that helped T-Mobile to grow so fast was the reintroduction of unlimited data plans. It was nearly like traveling out of state and not overseas. Once that 5GB limit is hit, speeds will be throttled down to 128kbps (or 256kbps if you have T-Mobile ONE Plus). This was intended to provide the same LTE data limits when roaming in North America as when using LTE in the USA, and when combined with T-Mobile's subsequent Unlimited plan, this meant unlimited LTE data when traveling in Canada and Mexico.

The offered 5 GB data allotment is replenished with each billing cycle for Canada and Mexico. Starting on 12 November, the LTE speed will drop to 256Kbps for Oneplus users and 128Kbps for other users after the daily limit has been reached.

It's not shocking that T-Mobile would do this.

T-Mobile customers can track their LTE usage in Canada and Mexico by dialing the short code #WEB# on their phone.

What Will Be the Impact of The T-Mobile Plan for One and One Plus Users?

.

As for why T-Mobile is making this change, it wrote "Mobile Without Borders is an incredible benefit and allows customers to stay connected when traveling in Canada and Mexico". The carrier did state that "less than 1% of people" on the plan used over 5GB a month when traveling.

The mobile carrier said that it wants to improve and make a decision to "prevent usage beyond the intent of the product". Meanwhile, T-Mobile recently added free unlimited Netflix streaming to most of its T-Mobile ONE and T-Mobile ONE Plus plans, and it confirmed that its subscribers won't see any increases to the cost of their plans when Netflix's rate hike takes effect next month. In case you are on a T-Mobile One Plus plan, you will receive 256 Kbps after the data cap is exhausted.

T-Mobile has made this change which will only affect one percent of the people traveling to Mexico and Canada.

The best Unlimited Plan crown has been fiercely contested in 2017, with many carriers launching new offers to try and one-up each other. The company will also send you an alert when you've used up 80 percent and 100 percent of your LTE data.
