  • Mother who refused to vaccinate son gets 7 days behind bars

A MI mother will spend several days in jail after she refused to get her son vaccinated.

The judge held Ms. Bredow in contempt of court and sentenced her after she refused to comply with court orders issued last week to ensure her son to receive all his missing vaccinations by 9 a.m. October 5.

WXYZ Channel 7 reported she failed to comply with court orders going back to November 2016. Now, he will have temporary custody to take the child to get vaccinated while she goes to jail.

"You agreed in a consent order to vaccinate your child", McDonald told Bredow in the sentencing hearing, widely covered by national and worldwide media.

MI mom who ignored consent order to...

A MI mother's anti-vaccination stance put her behind bars on Wednesday.

The state of MI allows parents to opt-out of certain vaccines for non-medical reasons. But the case is not about vaccines; it's about following the court's order, the judge said.

Anti-vaccination advocates - whose claims have been widely debunked by the medical community - fear the procedure exposes children to harm, and could be the cause of autism. "It goes against my beliefs your honor", Bredow said. The National Vaccine Information Center lists MI as one of more than a dozen states that allows all three vaccination exemptions: religious, philosophical and medical grounds. Her ex-husband has been awarded primary custody of the boy while she is in prison.

The federal government does not legislate child immunisation, only issuing recommendations while leaving requirements to states or local school districts. "So I am sentencing you to seven days in jail".

Horne told the courts he now wants the boy to receive all of the vaccinations recommended by his age and the court ruled in his favor.

Let me say it one more time, you have seven days.

Bredow was handcuffed in court and escorted out of the room by deputies on site.
