  • Ex-Spurs man, Paulinho scores victor as Barca beat Getafe

Barcelona flawless start in the La Liga continued after a hard fought 2-1 victory over Getafe on a day the Spanish giant nearly failed to come to the party.

But Denis Suarez and Paulinho struck to give Ernesto Valverde's side their fifth win on the bounce across all competitions.

Japanese global Shibasaki took matters into his own hands as he opened the scoring for Getafe with a spectacular volley from the edge of the box in the 39th minute, 1-0.

Barca's fine start to the season means they already sit seven points clear of reigning champions Real Madrid, whose game in hand is a testing away trip to in-form Real Sociedad on Sunday.

Signed in the summer transfer window for a club-record £96.8m to replace Neymar, who joined Paris St-Germain, Dembele was making his first league start for Barcelona.

Roberto shows great tenacity down the right before cutting the ball back into the box for Suarez who came on at the start of the second half for Andres Iniesta.

Messi thought that he had levelled the scores in first-half stoppage time with a sensational free kick, but Guaita made an outstanding save to ensure that the hosts would take a one-goal lead into the interval.

Former Tottenham midfielder Paulinho scored a late victor as Barcelona maintained their 100% record in La Liga by coming from behind to beat Getafe.

Halftime substitute Denis Suarez curled in the equaliser from inside the box after being set-up by Sergi Roberto in the 62nd minute, 1-1.

Argentina worldwide Lionel Messi nearly levelled the scores just before the break but his brilliant free-kick, that seemed destined for the top-left corner, was superbly tipped around the post. Fellow new recruit Paulinho then became the unlikely hero with a goal that issued a considerable statement to his doubters.
