With a vote on Wednesday, the International Olympic Committee awarded the 2028 Games to Los Angeles as part of a historic move to select two host cities simultaneously. Paris hosted in 1900 and then again in 1924 before a lengthy layoff.
Unlike past elections for Olympic host cities when these final presentations might have made a difference in the IOC vote, neither city had to worry about losing.
But critics have noted that a slew of previous hosts - including Rio de Janeiro, which staged the 2016 Summer Games - have ended up with substantial deficits. Boston was the country's original contender to host the 2024 games, but it backed out two years ago. The center is estimated to cost about $123 million and will be paid for by public funds.
The Los Angeles planning committee estimates that the games will cost $5.3 billion.

The United States finally lands a Summer Games after failed bids by NY for 2012 and Chicago for 2016. Bach is in Lima for the Wednesday IOC session to vote on the host cities for the next Olympics.
"I can look people in the eye and say this is a much stronger deal financially", said Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti. "For the first time in a generation, we are bringing the Games back to the City of Angels". "Both cities are very enthusiastic about the Games and are promoting the Olympic spirit in a fantastic way".
"We are thrilled that the Olympics will be returning to Los Angeles", said Oram.
