Over 40,000 Rohingyas are believed to be staying illegally within India. "Also our Turkish Coordination and Cooperation Agency [TİKA] head and our foreign minister, who is now in Azerbaijan, will head to Bangladesh to meet, contact and provide aid opportunities there", he said.

The Indian government is concerned about Rohingya immigrants in the country, and has been considering to deport them.

Earlier, Prime Minister Narendra Modi met Myanmar's State Counsellor Aung San Suu Kyi and the two leaders discussed ways to further cement the bilateral relations. India estimates almost 40,000 Rohingya Muslims have already made India their home over the last five years and has announced plans to deport the illegal immigrants back to Myanmar. Several other agreements were also signed between the two countries.

India too has invested heavily in connectivity projects through Myanmar - such as the Kaladan multi-modal project that involves developing a port, an inland waterways terminal and a road. "We are partners in your concerns, over the loss of lives of security forces and innocent people due to the extremist violence in Rakhine State", PM Modi said.

Earlier, AFP reported Suu Kyi as saying on Wednesday that a "huge iceberg of misinformation" was distorting the picture of the Rohingya crisis, which has forced 125,000 of the Muslim minority to flee to Bangladesh.

Suu Kyi was awarded a Nobel Peace Prize for her work in bringing democracy to Myanmar, but some have called for her Prize to be taken back.

Modi is now in the second leg of his two-nation visit.

The first such MoU between the two neighbours assumes significance for the northeastern region of the country.

This is Modi's first bilateral visit to Myanmar. He had visited the country in 2014 to attend the ASEAN-India Summit.

Modi announced free visas for Myanmar nationals keen to visit India, standing next to Suu Kyi - the country's State Counsellor and de-facto leader - in Nay Pyi Taw, at a time his administration has declared plans to deport 40,000 illegal Rohingya refugees now in India.

Thousands of Rohingyas are crossing over into Bangladesh - where they are sparingly given refugee status - to escape from the violence in Rakhine state.
