Christopher McQuarrie, who previously helmed Mission: Impossible - Rogue Nation, is once again writing and directing the sequel which is now set for a July 27, 2018 release.

Cruise, 55, who is known for doing his own stunts, was tis week seen in a video on celebrity news website TMZ attempting to jump between the roofs of two high-rise buildings and landing hard against a wall during filming in London at the weekend. The extend of the actor's injuries are now unclear, but Variety says that the accident could lead to a production hiatus from anywhere between six weeks to three months.

Cruise has long prided himself in doing his own stunts, even defying studio bosses and insurance companies in order to give his film's signature set pieces a greater realism. According to the Sun, a medical examination showed that the famous Hollywood actor broken two bones in his ankle.

"I was scared s--less", Cruise admitted of his "Mission: Impossible 5" stunt.

If production misses that date, it could take a lot of maneuvering of schedules (and cooperation with other studios) to get everyone back to complete the latest movie in Paramount's moneymaking franchise.

In fact, the elaborate and often unsafe set-pieces Cruise performs have become something of a calling card, with Cruise trying to out-do himself for each new movie.

The 55-year-old actor has a history of performing hard stunts, with his Mission: Impossible - Rogue Nation plane sequence even serving as a key point in the film's marketing.

"Mission: Impossible 6" also stars Rebecca Ferguson, Simon Pegg and "Superman" actor Henry Cavill. The makers of the film have no other choice than to push back the filming and the release of the film, "says the source of the log".

We wish him to recover soon and we'll keep you informed of anything we find out. At the time, neither Cruise's publicist nor a representative for Paramount would confirm that the actor was injured. For the 2015 follow-up, "Mission: Impossible - Rogue Nation", Cruise, in a digitally erased safety harness, hangs from an Airbus A400M four-engine turboprop 5,000 feet in the air.
