Three people from IL were shot to death Sunday night at the Great Lakes Dragaway in Wisconsin, the Kenosha County Sheriff's Office said.

Two of the victims died at the scene, while a third died en route to a hospital, according to the Kenoshaw News.

"It's a hard situation, and I'd feel a lot better, if there's a way to feel better about this, if we had the suspect in custody or we knew who this was", says Kenosha County Sheriff David Beth. Two friends who were with the victims "had no idea what caused this", he said.

The suspect remains at large, Kenosha County Sheriff David Beth told a press conference Sunday night.

According to the Dragaway's website, there was an event called Larry's Fun Fest being held there from 9 AM to 6 PM Sunday.

Three Illinois men who were shot to death at point-blank range during a drag racing event in southeastern Wisconsin may have been targeted by a rival gang member, a sheriff's official said Monday.

Three men are dead after being shot Sunday evening at a auto show event at a drag strip in Union Grove, about 25 miles south of Milwaukee. The west frontage road leading to Great Lakes Dragaway on Highway KR between Interstate-94 and Highway 45 was shut down by officers. "After he assassinated the three subjects he was seen running through the crowd and fleeing in a vehicle", Beth said. No suspects have been arrested. According to a police spokesman on the scene, they only have a vague description of the shooter, a black male with short hair and cut-off jeans in his 30s. "At this point we're not aware of exactly what caused this".

The sheriff said that authorities are hoping to talk with witnesses and look through video footage.

"I'm thinking this was a mass exodus though I can't say for sure". Searching the scene was hard because of the upwards of 15,000 people at the event and fading light after the 7 p.m. hour when it occurred. It took several hours to get everyone out.
