Earlier in the interview, host Chuck Todd asked what was "going on" between him and Bannon.

"I've never sat down with Steve Bannon and said, 'Hey are you a white nationalist or a white supremacist?' But I think the toleration of it by Steve Bannon is inexcusable".

"I wouldn't have given that statement", Scaramucci told Stephanopoulos.

He also called on Trump to distance himself from top adviser Steve Bannon, the divisive former head of Breitbart News who Scaramucci argued was pulling Trump too far to the right and was "not serving the president's interest".

"I believe that everyone who works in the White House - who has the privilege, the great privilege every day of serving their nation - should be motivated by that goal", he said.

"I am ready to work with anybody to help advance the president's agenda and advance the security, prosperity of the American people", McMaster responded.

"I don't think you're going to change the president", Scaramucci said.

The ex-aide was speaking on the ABC News show This Week when he was asked by host George Stephanopoulos about the statement the USA president gave yesterday in which he condemned the violence but not neo-nazis specifically.

Scaramucci tried to explain Trump's thinking.

"What happens in Washington.is the president is not a representative of the political establishment class, so for whatever reason the people have made a decision that they want to eject him", Mr Scaramucci said. And so if he does that, he'll have a very successful legislative agenda that he'll be able to execute.

Breitbart has close ties with the alt-right movement, an ideology that can be associated with white nationalism. "If he doesn't do that, you'll see inertia".

When discussing the influences that he thinks are impacting Trump, Scaramucci urged the president to take a more mainstream approach in order to sell his agenda.

"The president has a very good idea of who the leakers are inside the White House".

Scaramucci's appearance on "This Week" was his first major public interview since being fired last month after launching into a profanity-laced rant on a call with New Yorker reporter Ryan Lizza.

STEPHANOPOULOS: You've been tough on Steve Bannon.

Scaramucci complained that what Lizza did was "very deceitful" while also taking responsibility.

On July 22nd, Scaramucci appeared on the Breitbart News Saturday radio show, declaring: "I think that one of the things that Breitbart has done has captured the spirit of what is actually going on in this country".
