Iran's lawmakers have overwhelmingly approved a motion in response to recent USA sanctions, voting to boost spending on Tehran's missile program and the Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC).

"Iran will never pay the price of violating the JCPOA", spokesman for the National Security and Foreign Policy Committee Hossein Naghavian said, adding that Washington "is after imposing the cost of killing the nuclear deal". The legislation includes increased spending on Tehran's missile development and Revolutionary Guards.

On August 2, US President Donald Trump signed into law a bill by Congress that imposes new sanctions against Russia, Iran and North Korea.

"The Americans should know that this was our first action", said speaker Ali Larijani, after announcing an overwhelming majority vote for a package "to confront terrorist and adventurist actions by the United States in the region".

Iranian lawmakers on Sunday overwhelmingly voted to approve a bill aimed at countering the new U.S. sanctions against the Islamic Republic.

During his campaign he threatened to tear up the 2015 nuclear deal with Iran, which he has called "the worst deal ever".

Iran's Deputy Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi said the bill passed on Sunday had the support of the government.

He reminded members of parliament that the government backed the bill, which he said "was designed wisely so that it does not violate the (nuclear deal) and provide excuses for opposing sides", reported.

Iran denies developing ballistic missiles created to carry nuclear weapons in violation of the agreement and has accused the U.S. of breaking its word by imposing fresh sanctions.

Last week, Iranian President Hassan Rouhani warned Mr Trump that he risks political suicide if he scrapped the nuclear deal with Tehran.

The deal eased sanctions on Iran in exchange for curbs to its nuclear programme and was endorsed by a United Nations resolution.
