CPI (M) slams Arun Jaitley's Kerala visit

Political murders in Kerala have acquired a degree and scale that puts into shade the most reprehensible terrorist act, according to Finance Minister Arun Jaitley.

"Those who regularly speak against any similar incidents in other parts of the country somehow are completely silent when it comes to the continuing saga of violence in Kerala', the senior BJP leader said".

The CPI-M on Friday accused the BJP-RSS cadres for attacking and killing the Left party's workers and supporters in Kerala and accused the BJP of "doublespeak".

Vijayan's government needs to "discipline its own cadres rather than let them loose on political opponents", he added. "It will only increase their determination to work harder against those who are perpetuating this operation". I assure our karyakartas and victims that the party will stand strongly behind them.

At a condolence meeting here after visiting the family members of slain RSS worker Rajesh Edavakode, Mr Jaitley said the RSS and BJP could not be suppressed with violence, and asked the CPI (M) to "introspect". "If someone wants me to meet them, I would", said Jaitley in reply to the families of deceased CPM activists. State BJP leaders, including president Kummanam Rajasekharan, accompanied the Union minister.

Ahead of the media interaction, Jaitley also attended a meeting held to commemorate Rajesh and met victims of alleged CPM violence. He also alleged that he didn't visit the houses of CPM leaders and councillors, who were attacked during the recent violence. The governor's tweet read, "Summoned Chief minister @CMOKerala and State Police Chief to know about action taken by State govt on law and order issues in Trivandrum".

Saying that the Union Home Minister adopts one position while another Minister and BJP leadership take a contrary stand, the CPI-M said: "This clearly shows that the BJP-RSS leaders are not keen to see peace is restored and there are no political clashes". "The Union minister should realize that the lives of CPM workers were as precious as those of RSS workers".

Although not declared a political murder, police arrested 16 RSS workers in connection with the killing of a teenager called Ananthu Ashokan at Cherthala.
