Andre De Grasse out of the World Championships

"I promise I won't be there", he said as Bolt chuckled.

De Grasse's injury will also be a blow to the Canadian team's hopes at the world championships.

But for now, Canada still has a very strong team at the World Championships.

"I think when (the meet) actually gets going and Andre sees the final and sees those eight guys lining up and he's not one of them, I think that's when it's really going to hit home", McMillan said Thursday.

If Nike plumped for Coleman, Puma - Usain Bolt's own shoe sponsor - signed up Andre de Grasse in a multi-year, multi-million deal in 2015 as their pick for the next 100m superstar.

"I am sad to miss this chance but I am young and with treatment and rehabilitation I will be back and better than ever in the near future".

He is only the joint-seventh fastest man over 100m in 2017, but has a history of rising to the big occasion. If I show up at championships I am confident in my abilities.

"Personally I think it was there (rock bottom)".

Athletics has been mired by doping over the years, and track and field's governing body, the IAAF, has been on the back foot over widespread state-sponsored doping in Russian Federation. He was so new to how things worked that when they asked him to step onto the medal stand, De Grasse took the spot for the third-place finisher.

Wellesley and Jennifer Bolt gifted their son his first pair of spikes back when he began running on the track, so it was only fitting that they were there to hand him the final pair of his professional career as well.

"I feel ready and just like anyone you want to come out with the win, that's the goal for me".

Bolt may never have been slower before a major championship, but the threats to him have rarely been less clear.

A year later, De Grasse was hamming it up with Bolt in Brazil, though it wasn't all fun and games.

6 - Bolt's record tally of IAAF World Athlete of the Year awards.

United would be the dream move for Bolt, but it appears the Jamaican will train with Borussia Dortmund once he officially retires from sprint racing, according to his agent Ricky Simms.

"I still have to become a lot faster to reach what he's done", he said. "It's good to see the guys supporting me as an athlete and backing the athlete that I'm becoming and also the belief I'm receiving in what I'm doing".

"I don't think it gets any worse than that", he said, referring to the problems in Russian Federation that left the sport at rock bottom. We're going to go in the right direction and I'm happy about that situation.
