Sterling Shepard carted off; Giants say it's a rolled ankle

  • EAST RUTHERFORD NJ- JULY 30 New York Giants wide receiver Sterling Shepard during 2017 New York Giants Training Camp

But it also is a time where we see the majority of injuries happen.

Second-year wide receiver Sterling Shepard was carted off of the practice field in visible pain on Wednesday. Shepard was reportedly in tears exciting on the cart with the training staff.

This is a big challenge for the receiver and team as they were going to ravage defenses with their new trio of wide-receivers.

Had the injury been a torn ACL, MCL or even a high ankle sprain, Shepard could have been lost for several weeks to a full year. Doctors examined his left ankle according to NFL.com's Ian Rapoport.

The team focused on improving the team's offense, which struggled heavily last season.

Counting Shepard and the aforementioned Beckham Jr., Lewis and Marshall, the Giants now have 12 wide receivers on the roster. He was slated to do a lot of work out of the slot with Marshall and Beckham playing on the outside as targets for Eli Manning. The Giants are surely hoping some quick rest will get him back on the field and hope he's ready for Week 1.

Either way, the Giants are hoping for the best outcome from this situation.

If Shepard is sidelined for an extended period of time, other receivers who might be asked to step up include Dwayne Harris, Roger Lewis and Tavarres King.
