US "done talking about North Korea"

In the wake of North Korea's latest ICBM launch, US Ambassador to the UN Nikki Haley said Sunday the US is not seeking a Security Council emergency session to discuss the matter.

"In fact, it is worse than nothing, because it sends the message to the North Korean dictator that the global community is unwilling to seriously challenge him", Haley said.

In more diplomatic language, Haley said: "China must decide whether it is finally willing to take this final step".

"Done talking about NKorea.China is aware they must act.Japan & SKorea must inc pressure. Not only a USA problem. It will req an intl solution", she wrote.

North Korea's state television broadcast pictures of the launch, showing the missile lifting off in a fiery blast in darkness and Kim cheering with military aides.

"The president of the United States is leading a coalition of nations to bring pressure to bear until that time that North Korea will permanently abandon its nuclear and ballistic missile program", Pence said.

"I am very disappointed in China". Haley gave China a draft text after North Korea's July 4 ICBM test.

CBS News reported Saturday that the USA was seeking an emergency session on Monday, but Haley shot down such reporting as "mistaken".

Speculation had been rife that Washington would seek an emergency session of the Security Council, but Haley shot down such suggestions, stating simply: "That is mistaken".

The United States has been in talks with North Korean ally China on a draft U.N. Security Council resolution to impose stronger sanctions on North Korea.

The ambassador's tweet comes one day after President Donald Trump sent his owntweets on Saturday criticizing China for "doing NOTHING for us with North Korea, just talk".

North Korea on Friday tested a Hwasong-14 for the second time this month, reaching an altitude and distance in the test that defense experts believe indicate the missile could reach the continental United States, including Los Angeles and Chicago.

North Korea has been under United Nations sanctions since 2006 over its ballistic missile and nuclear programs and the Security Council has ratcheted up the measures in response to five nuclear weapons tests and two long-range missile launches.

That would leave North Korea only the technical challenge of miniaturizing a nuclear warhead that could withstand reentry in order to back leader Kim Jong Un's incessant nuclear threats against the US. We will no longer allow this to continue.
