Kyoto-based Nintendo reported Wednesday a profit of 21.26 billion yen ($190 million) for the fiscal first quarter, improving from a 24.5 billion yen loss for the three months through June 30 past year.

Revealed as part of Nintendo's latest earning results, the last fiscal quarter saw Switch sell 1.97 million units, continuing its strong start in the market. Therefore, we know that Switch already has 4.7 million units sold and Nintendo 3DS with 67.08 million pieces displaced. In total, Nintendo has sold over 13.6 million games on the console.

Nintendo has sold over 4.7 million Nintendo Switch consoles since its release in March 2017. Of course, it doesn't necessarily take a financial report to figure that out, as the Switch can still be hard to find in some place. However, that still means Nintendo sold 3.92 million copies.

Pokemon for Nintendo Switch will be released in 2018 or later. Mario Kart 8 Deluxe is even more impressive, achieving 3.54 million sales even though it was only released on April 28.

The Kyoto-based company said operating profit - which measures the earnings power of its core business - hit more than JPY16 billion for the three-month period ending June.

With the Switch still in very high demand, we shouldn't expect anything other than more good news when the next quarter results eventually appear.

The 3DS, meanwhile, sold another 0.95m hardware units - an increase of one per cent year-on-year - but overall software sales fell by 31 per cent year-on-year to 5.85m for the period.

The move to digital came after the huge success of Pokémon Go, which was jointly developed by Nintendo, Niantic and the Pokémon Company. Fans seem to want a Switch port of Super Smash Bros. for Wii U, so don't be surprised to see Nintendo pursue such a re-release in the future.
