  • Swiss forensic officers investigate at a crime site in Schaffhausen Switzerland

Swiss police on Tuesday arrested a 50-year-old man a day after he stormed into an insurance office wielding a chainsaw and wounded two staff members, bringing an end to a two-day manhunt that had also involved German police.

Wrousis is accused of attacking two employees of a health insurance company in their office in Schaffhausen's old town on Monday morning.

Police issued a brief statement announcing the arrest but said they would give no further details before a news conference scheduled in Schaffhausen on Wednesday.

Police warned the man was "psychologically unstable" as they said he was still at large despite an overnight police search.

Two people were hurt by the chainsaw, one of them seriously, while three others sustained minor injuries not related to the chainsaw.

The suspect was convicted in 2014 and again in 2016 for weapons offences, police said.

Several other residents told the site they had also passed by Wrousis in the forest - about 2km from Schaffhausen - and that his behaviour had been threatening.

Although Schaffhausen is near the German border, there is no evidence indicating the suspect has left Switzerland, RTS reported.

Police said Mr Wrousis had been a customer of the firm.

Cindy Beer, from the areas police force, told local media that the victims had been injured with a chainsaw, and detectives later added that it was believed the suspect was still carrying the weapon.

In a statement, police warned "the suspect is risky", but said it was unclear whether he still had the chainsaw. They described him as being about 1 meter 90 centimeters tall (6.2 feet) and said he is now partly bald and unkempt.

Police have distributed multiple photos of Wrousis, including one of him looking dishevelled in a forested area.

On Monday afternoon, police found a white Volkswagen minivan that the suspect was believed to be driving. Schaffhausen, with a population of 36,000, is about 30 miles from Zurich.
