  • Alexa is Coming to the Amazon Android App (This Week)

So it looks like Alexa will be coming to the Amazon shopping app on Android some time this week.

There was no formal announcement of the launch, but Amazon has confirmed the integration and is rolling out the service this week.

That may not be a user's primary demand inside of a shopping app, but this is likely just a way for Amazon to display Alexa's capabilities and engage customers to use it more.

Amazon quietly bought Graphiq, a data visualization company a few months ago to beef up its popular Alexa virtual personal assistant, according to The Los Angeles Times citing unnamed sources.

A Twitter user by the name of Nick Schwab posted the news after he had received a notification in the Alexa app on his device saying that the digital assistant is now also available in the Amazon app.

Similar to the version of Alexa that ships with Amazon's range of Echo devices, Alexa on mobile can perform several voice-activated functions, such as answering basic questions or giving daily news via the Flash Briefing feature. He stressed that Alexa will be a main feature of the Amazon app and not a standalone. Alexa can even provide weather and traffic information for those who need to commute, and it can also play music as you navigate the app.

Neither Amazon or Graphiq commented for the newspaper. It, however, did confirm Alexa's arrival on Android to TechCrunch.

Users will be able to take full advantage of Alexa integration on their Android handsets.
