  • Sensex slumps from record high, investors face issues at NSE

"Due to technical reasons in cash market, trading has been stopped in both Cash and F&O segment of NSE".

Investors faced problems in executing trades in the morning as technical glitches forced the exchange to stop trading in the cash as well as the F&O (futures and options) segments.

The wider 51-scrip Nifty of the National Stock Exchange (NSE) was also trading 45.25 points or 0.47 per cent higher at 9,711.05 points.

Trading on the National Stock Exchange commenced late owing to a technical glitch. Two attempts were made to re-open the market before finally resuming at 12.30 pm.

The Finance Ministry has sought a report from SEBI on this issue. The technical team of NSE is looking into the issue.

Positive global cues along with short covering, above normal monsoon rains and expectations of healthy quarterly numbers pushed the Indian equity markets to close at fresh highs on Monday. Soon after, trading got stalled in NSE as cash quotes were not updating, while future rates were still working fine. Meanwhile, the Nifty was trading higher by 99.35 points or 1.03% at 9,765.15 with 45 components gaining.

On BSE, 1,540 stocks advanced, while 1,112 declined and 157 remained unchanged. But the glitch didn't allow that. "A clear framework will remove uncertainties from the minds of the traders and investors", said the former ED of SEBI. The system was expected to be rectified quickly and shifting to a BCP (business continuity plan) site would have taken a longer time, added the source. During the day, the NSE issued as many as three public statements about the technical snag, with the last one coming at around 1930 hours.
