Contestants weighed in ahead of Nathan's Famous Fourth of July Hot Dog Eating Contest held annually in Coney Island. Or zero. But when you're Joey Chestnut and you're going for a record-breaking 10th Nathan's Hot Dog Eating Contest title, health isn't on the top of your mind.

Once again, Joey Chestnut proved there is no match for his feats of gastrointestinal fortitude. The famed animal rights group sent an activist dressed as Uncle Sam to Coney Island, passing out vegetarian hot dogs outside the eating contest.

And true to form, "Joey the jaws" did not disappoint!

The chowdown showdown usually draws thousands of spectators and is televised on ESPN.

Thomas, a former three-time champion, finished third with 30 dogs.

On the ladies side- Miki Sudo- took home the title for the fourth year in a row.

Chestnut said at Monday's pre-contest weigh-in that he models his training after marathoners, slowly building up to eating more and more franks as the contest approaches. The event is overseen by a federation called Major League Eating.

Chestnut appears to be on a mission since Stonie ended his eight-year reign, beating the contest record in both years since his loss.

"I'm gonna crush you and your skinny jeans", said Chestnut, who stands 6-foot-1 and weighs a manly 230 pounds, in an interview with TMZ Sports.

Chestnut won the competition for the 10 time and improved on the speed-eating tally he posted last summer.

Chestnut won his first title in 2007 when the contest lasted 12 minutes.

Sudo bested Sonya "The Black Widow" Thomas, who holds the record of 45 franks. For context, the 72 hot dogs that Chestnut ate Tuesday is more than an average American will eat - in one year.
