  • Samsung to open $380 million appliance manufacturing plant in Newberry County

South Carolina Senator Lindsay Graham also expressed his excitement in a statement, declaring, "As a global leader in technology, Samsung could have gone anywhere to locate its new facility, but chose to invest in South Carolina because it's a great place to do business".

Home appliance preferences vary greatly by region and this facility will allow Samsung to more quickly and efficiently adapt to the high demands and regional needs of their largest, fastest growing home appliance market, according to a Samsung statement.

The administration Trump was immediately seen in this ad the sign of a renewed appeal of the United States even though Samsung said that it meant to expand its activities on u.s. soil since "nearly three years". Samsung already operates a call center in Greenville, South Carolina, that supports 800 jobs. "By constructing this production plant, not only are we going to expand our business in the USA but we are also going to strengthen our connection with American consumers, engineers, and innovative companies that lead global trends for home appliances".

They will employ craftsmen, operators, engineers and other technical and non-technical positions. Samsung Electronics plans to have a washing machine production line up at the factory by early next year.

Samsung said it started thinking about expanding its U.S. production operations almost three years ago - during President Barack Obama's administration - and started talking with SC last fall.

Samsung Electronics CEO B.K. Yoon signed the company's plans Wednesday morning in Washington with Gov. Henry McMaster. "With this investment, Samsung is reaffirming its commitment to expanding its US operations and deepening our connection to its American consumers, engineers, and innovators who are driving global trends in consumer electronics".

The announcement came hours after new South Korean President Moon Jae-in left for the United States for meetings with President Donald Trump.

"As the demand for the products is rising globally, the establishment of a new US production line will not lead to the supply decline from factories of other regions", a Samsung Electronics official said.

Caterpillar announced past year it would shutter its 325-worker Newberry plant by late 2017 and move the work Texas, Indiana and Georgia under a cost-cutting plan.

The S.C. Department of Commerce said the state's Coordinating Council for Economic Development approved job development credits for the project.

Samsung employs over 18,500 people across the USA, including 3,000 jobs in Silicon Valley and over 6,000 manufacturing and engineering job in Texas.
