  • Father Kills His Two Young Children Hangs Self in Santa Rosa Police

Deputies made multiple attempts to contact the father and check on the children's welfare before they entered the home and found the bodies.

Police said the father, identified as 40-year-old Alvaro Camara, picked up his 6-year-old daughter and 18-month-old son so they could spend Father's Day together.

The six-year-old daughter had reportedly spent Saturday night with her father, and the mother had dropped off the 18-month-old boy at his apartment on Sunday morning.

Camara reportedly hung himself, and the children's cause of death is not yet known.

They say they were confronted a short time later by two men who yelled obscenities at them and had to be held back.

Neighbors say he lived in the complex only a few months but the arguments between him and his wife were intense on several occasions.

Deputies say Camara and the children's mother were involved in a custody dispute before the apparent double murder-suicide.

A California father is the prime suspect in a tragic murder-suicide on Father's Day weekend that took the lives of two young children. "He was always playing with them, riding his bike out here with them".

She called the sheriff's office and deputies looked in windows, knocked on doors and left a business card at the door, Crum said. "The mother immediately did report it to the sheriff's department and they immediately began investigating".

Santa Rosa Police Lt. John Cregan told KTVU, "Our preliminary investigation shows they did have a volatile arrangement following their separation and there have been heated verbal exchanges that we're aware of". Investigators say they encouraged the couple to obtain a custody order, which they did this past Wednesday.

"He was having a hard time going through the divorce and there were issues with the kids and custody and all that", Buchholz said.

Meanwhile, ABC 7 News spoke to other neighbours who said that Camara appeared to be a loving father in the weeks before the horrendous incident.
