A week ago, a video was posted onto YouTube by Atari that showed off what might have been a remastered version of the Atari 2600 console. However, Atari CEO Fred Chesnais has now told GamesBeat that a new Atari game console is indeed in the works.

The Atari Box is something I've been waiting for more confirmation on before running an piece on it, and well, it's time. Last week the company floated a link on social media that led the users to a website which had nothing but a video that offered a glimpse of the new console being prepared by the company. However, following a series of shortfalls in the 1990s, Atari dramatically dropped out of the hardware business, with companies like Microsoft and Sony filling the void they left. What is certain for now, the Ataribox is based on PC technology.

Retro gaming has had a revival in recent years, with Nintendo launching the the NES Classic Edition complete with old games such as Super Mario Bros and The Legend of Zelda. "Years in the making." - pointed towards the upcoming release of a new gaming console.

Of course, you may have already seen various Atari Flashback all-in-one consoles on store shelves already. Atari has pulled itself out of bankruptcy by making some basic mobile games, and signing licensing deals.

With a retrogaming package, the only thing that it seems Atari could do to create a real value is keep the price down and fill it with every game it has ever made.
