WH offers explanation for Trump's 'covfefe' tweet

Dubke's hiring had been meant to lighten the load on Sean Spicer, the White House press secretary, who had also been handling the duties of communications director during Trump's first month in office. Spicer nearly always says something to the effect of "The tweet speaks for itself".

Spicer all but balked at the question. "He wants to see action done, John, that's what the president wants", Spicer replied, neither confirming nor denying.

"Mike will assist with the transition and be a strong advocate for the president and the president's policies moving forward", Priebus said.

This endless sequence of non-answers raised another question, one that has been hanging over Spicer and the administration for weeks now: What is the point of having press briefings anymore if they are only going to involve deflection and disinformation?

The White House communications director Michel Dubke has resigned, as US President Donald Trump considers a major staff overhaul.

Others suggested the tweet had taken the pressure off U.S. comedian Kathy Griffin, who earlier came under fire for posting a video in which she held a replica of Trump's severed bloody head.

Although the word was considered most likely a misspelling of the word "coverage", Spicer, Trump's top interpreter as White House press secretary, didn't offer that explanation.

By the time the first change in what may be a broader shake-up was announced on Tuesday, the White House was left without a replacement.

Spicer is also frustrated by the media's treatment of him, the sources said.

First, Barack Obama was still president at the time; while it is normal for an incoming administration to have informal meet-and-greets with foreign officials, Kushner's proposal was so inappropriate that Kislyak was said to be stunned. "Is it really so unbelievable that the President of the United States did something by accident?" Did the president engage in obstruction of justice in repeated meetings with James Comey?

Trump has struggled more than most recent presidents to keep his conversations with world leaders private.

On Tuesday, Spicer declined to say if Trump has met with attorneys over representing him in a personal capacity.

It's hard to see what value there is in watching Sean Spicer kick up sand for half an hour. Comey, as the bureau's chief, was overseeing its investigation of Russia's alleged meddling in the 2016 presidential election, including questionable ties between Trump's campaign and Russian officials. "Regardless of whether you agree or disagree with President Trump, please tell me if each person does more to help or more to hurt the president when they speak on behalf ofthe administration". If you would like to discuss another topic, look for a relevant article.

Spicer had no further information on Mr. Trump's decision on whether to back out of the Paris climate agreement, although Mr. Trump tweeted last week that he would have a decision sometime this week.
