Wilson says in the past two years since the articles were published, she has only had two roles - one for the Absolutely Fabulous, which she did as a favour, and a stage role in London.

Wilson told the court the obsession led her to become a junior dog handler, with the highlight of her career being selected for the Sydney Royal Easter Show.

HOLLYWOOD star Rebel Wilson's film career was destroyed by a grubby media campaign to tear her down, a court has heard.

The actress said she was nicknamed Rebel and in 2002 chose to legally change her name to Rebel Elizabeth Melanie Wilson, taking her mother's maiden name after her parents separated. 'They weren't nasty articles, ' she said, adding Wilson lied about her age to journalist Caroline Overington.

"It should have been the high point of her career".

"She said a little girl named Rebel sang at her parents" wedding, and her mum wanted to call her first daughter the same name.

A series of articles published to coincide with the release of global smash hit Pitch Perfect 2 in May 2015 left the expat Aussie jobless and unable to land a film role.

The court heard she was subsequently fired from a number of movie roles.

"The phone just stopped ringing", Dr Collins said.

"The hallucination I had was that I was an actress in America at the Academy Awards and I won", she told the court.

Actor Hugh Sheridan, as well as Ms Wilson and her family, are expected to give evidence during the trial.

Many weekly magazines and websites run articles that are borderline defamatory arguing that celebrities want the press even if it is negative, they've come to expect it, while the news cycle moves so fast that there is no time to mount a legal challenge anyway or have offending articles pulled or retracted.

Wilson will begin testifying on Tuesday, when the trial, before Justice John Dixon, continues.

The actress, known for her work in comedies such as "Pitch Perfect" and "Bridesmaids", flew to Melbourne for the three-week trial and sat in court on Monday alongside her sister.

Wilson, 37, described herself as a proud bogan.

"I kind of use it very endearingly".
