Konta Battles Wozniacki For Miami Open

  • Konta Battles Wozniacki For Miami Open

Konta was just six years old when Venus Williams first claimed the Miami title 19 years ago.

The Brit is set to rise to a career-high ranking of No.7 following her third career WTA title; more impressively, she'll move up to No.2 on the Road to Singapore leaderboard in the hopes of making her debut at the BNP Paribas WTA Finals Singapore presented by SC Global. If you choose the option that says "Miami Open - Stadium (Finals)" or "Miami Open (Finals)" on ESPN 3, you only have to be logged into your internet provider-rather than a pay TV provider-to watch a live stream.

She began superbly, breaking to love in the opening game before Wozniacki swiftly broke back to level at 2-2.

Speaking on court she said "Congratulations Johanna, you played really well today, you deserved the win, you played better than me".

Konta is the number two player in the world this year, and now holds titles in Sydney, Stanford and Miami.

"Against Caroline, I'm definitely going to be looking forward to playing a lot of balls and a lot of tough points". She has just two wins to her name (in Rome) previous year, so barely any points to defend, but apart from Charleston, she has nothing else in the schedule until the next round of Premier Mandatories in Madrid and Rome. She ran a marathon for goodness sake.

"I think I've always had the belief of wanting to become a Grand Slam champion, wanting to become the best in the world", Konta said.

"She's one of the best athletes in the game". I think I can take a lot of positives from that and just build on it.

"I'm sure it'll be a match where I'll be running for a lot of balls".

Konta, so almost eliminated in the quarter finals and who struggled through her opening match against the world No 120, was rewarded for her more attacking intent against the Dane.

In her two finals this year, both in February, Wozniacki was beaten by Pliskova at Doha and by Ukrainian Elina Svitolina at Dubai.
