Report says Federal Bureau of Investigation has possibly damning intel on Trump associates

On Thursday, CNN quoted unnamed "US officials" as saying that the Federal Bureau of Investigation has information that indicates associates of President Donald Trump "communicated with suspected Russian operatives to possibly coordinate the release of information damaging to Hillary Clinton's campaign".

USA officials, speaking on condition of anonymity, told CNN that communications between Donald Trump's inner circle and the suspected Russian operatives were possibly aimed at coordinating the release of information to damage Hillary Clinton's bid for the White House.

The investigators are still reviewing and analysing the information and are looking for any indications of a potential cooperation, USA officials said.

Although the White House has declined to comment on the latest report by CNN, the White House Press Secretary Sean Spicer said on Monday, after Comey's testimony before Congress, that there was no evidence of collusion between Trump's aides and Russian operatives.

Spicer insisted that Comey's claim that the FBI was "investigating" did not mean that the agency has "proof".

One law enforcement source quoted by CNN suggested the intelligence being examined indicated that "people connected to the campaign were in contact and it appeared they were giving the thumbs up to release information when it was ready".

Other officials warned that it was too soon to draw such inferences because the evidence was circumstantial.

"So I think when it comes down to that reporting", he continued, "it's filled with a bunch of subjective terms about this person may have done this, possibly could have done that, and at the end of this story, if you wait till the very bottom, it says, 'The FBI cannot yet prove that collusion took place.' So I've addressed this type of reporting in the past, and this fits right in".

First Rep. Adam Schiff (D-Calif.) the ranking member on the House Intelligence Committee lambasted Nunes' stunt saying "the chairman will need to decide whether he is the chairman of an independent investigation into conduct, which includes allegations of potential coordination between the Trump campaign and the Russians".

This is partly what FBI Director James Comey was referring to when he made a bombshell announcement Monday before Congress that the FBI is investigating the Trump campaign's ties to Russian Federation, according to one source.

Investigators continue to analyze the material and information from multiple sources for any possible indications of coordination, according to United States officials.

USA intelligence officials were said to be looking into whether the Trump campaign was colluding with Russian Federation to damage Clinton's campaign.
