  • Trump shifts blame to conservatives on health care bill failure

The president said then he didn't feel betrayed by the conservative lawmakers who opposed the bill.

Still, a senior administration official said the President is likely to pay the Freedom Caucus less heed going forward given its members' refusal to accept Trump's and House leaders' offers to compromise on health care.

U.S. Representative Mark Meadows, chairman of the conservative House Freedom Caucus, said on Sunday that he had not given up on reviving a Republican plan to repeal Obamacare before moving on to tax reform.

On Twitter on Sunday, Trump warned: "Democrats are smiling in D.C. that the Freedom Caucus, with the help of Club For Growth and Heritage, have saved Planned Parenthood & Ocare!"

But on Friday, it wasn't the far-right Freedom Caucus, but the Democrats Trump publicly blamed for the measure's failure, even though it was a lack of Republican support for the legislation that ultimately killed it.

"Look, Obamacare as we know is imploding and it is exploding, and every other adjective you can provide".

He said that Democrats shouldn't be applauding this because America's health care system still requires some serious changes. "I think it's time for our folks to come together, and I also think it's time to potentially get a few moderate Democrats on board as well".

"The most valuable player", he said, "will be President Trump on this, because he will deliver".
