  • Google doodle honours scientist Jagdish Chandra Bose on his 158th birthday

The Google Doodle shows the scientist with crescograph, which is an instrument that he invented to measure growth in plants. That incredible man was Jagadish Chandra Bose (1858-1937). He has been most popular for his work with radio and microwave optics and also plant science.

"I listened spellbound to stories of birds, animals and aquatic creatures".

In 1895 in Calcutta, he publicly demonstrated wireless transmission of electromagnetic waves for the first time anywhere in the world, using the waves to ring a distant bell and thereby to explode some gunpowder, according to a biography at Christ's College, University of Cambridge, where he studied natural sciences.

When he joined the University of Kolkatta as a Professor of Physics, he was denied entry to laboratories due to his race.

This is not the case.

Bose was a multi-talented scientist in the literal sense, and apart from biophysics, he was also famous for his innovations in the world of radio and microwave sciences. Bose was, however, a significant figure in the creation of modern radio and sonic technology - while also having a keen interest in botany. He proved plants too have emotions, their own ways of responding to stimuli, especially to affection and pain, often by allowing their physiology to morph according to changes in temperature and seasons.

His invention, crescograph helped scientists better understand about cultivation of crops in an effective way.

But the greatest honor bestowed upon him was the naming of a crater on the far side of the Moon after him.

The outer rim of the Bose Crater has become worn and the edges rounded by impacts, although the shape of the site has been well-preserved.
