Tom Brady on his return: 'There was plenty of rust'

16 October, 2016, 01:17 | Author: Lula Armstrong

The mini-Usain Bolt celebration on the sideline after running for a first down.

Brady triumphantly re-emerged from his four-game "Deflategate" suspension with a 406-yard, three-touchdown effort in Sunday's 33-13 win over the Cleveland Browns.

Brady is in his 17th season but says the nature of his position should allow him to play many more.

Gronk told reporters this: "Tom always brings the ampness".

New England Patriots quarterback Tom Brady will turn 40 next summer but has said his goal is to play into the next decade. Yet he recognized how much better it can be. "I love going out there and love playing football when I'm back to myself".

"I don't know", Gronkowski said. "Absolutely, there definitely were a few of those and they are the ones you learn from. I can do better in a lot of areas", Brady said. Can the Patriots hold first place of their division? The Patriots scored touchdowns on their first three offensive possessions en route to improving their record to 4-1.

Thousands of New England fans, many wearing No. 12 jerseys, made the trip to OH to greet Brady. So was wide receiver Chris Hogan, who hadn't been used much of late.

Gronkowski and Bennett merely combined for 11 catches for 176 yards.

"He made some big plays for us", Belichick said of Bennett Sunday. Now it's New England's turn to punish the rest of the league.

Yes, Brady's performance came against the utterly hapless Browns.

Brady sat patiently next to Edelman on the bench while Cleveland (0-5) went three-and-out to begin his first meaningful game since losing the AFC championship in Denver in January. Brady maximised Rob Gronkowski's coverage mismatches to facilitate yards after receptions. "He's our leader. He's our guy".

Hours earlier, dozens of fans, many in No. 12 Patriots jerseys, eagerly awaited Brady's entrance from the tunnel.

The Patriots went 3-1 in Brady's absence with a combination of third-year backup Jimmy Garoppolo and rookie Jacoby Brissett handling the snaps under center.

The pass was behind Johnson and skipped out of the end zone, giving the Patriots a safety.

He interrupted his warmup throws - with fully inflated footballs, presumably - to chat with referee Bill Vinovich.

In the end, the four-game layoff didn't matter. He appealed and won, then lost, and during the summer he dropped the fight. And he should continue to light the world on fire - in fact if he puts up numbers all years like the numbers he put up in Cleveland on Sunday, he will be a favorite for NFL MVP despite missing four games.

Before the game, Brady worked out in the corridors under the stadium while several teammates were on the field.

The Patriots gained more total yards in the first half (321) than the team did in the entire game last weekend (277). "We were fired up, and we were just trying to make plays for him". I had to let them know I was coming back in the game. "It feels great being back out there with the boys and doing what I have to do to help the team".
