  • Oculus Rift finally gets United Kingdom release date, retail partners and price

Oculus VR has revealed that its Oculus Rift VR headset is set to land in the United Kingdom and Europe later this year.

Fulfilling a promise made almost 12 months ago Microsoft Corp. has finally delivered a virtual reality version of Minecraft for the Oculus Rift headset. To be honest, we're not sure why Mojang made a decision to gives Minecraft: Windows 10 Edition the VR treatment, instead of the vastly more popular Java release, but here we are.

In addition, you'll have the chance to demo Oculus Rift in more than 600 stores across the States, Canada and Europe later in the year, once the VR headset goes on sale. However, many players prefer to play in creative mode, which comprises of unlimited resources, and simply no threats. Provided you're one of the relatively few people playing Minecraft: Windows 10 Edition instead of the full game.

Oculus pioneered virtual reality technology, having started as a Kickstarter project in 2012 subsequently raising $2.5 million. Hearing this, Microsoft also aims at including Xbox One game controller support. This "emergency stop" doesn't actually turn off VR, per se, but it puts the viewer into a faux living-room environment, where Minecraft is being played on a 2D screen in front of the viewer.

Minecraft, Microsoft's tremendously popular video game, now works on Facebook's Oculus Rift headset, a highly regarded entrant into the new world of virtual reality.

It is too late to call in sick, but Windows 10 has just enabled Minecraft for the Oculus Rift, so perhaps you might have a rethink about your priorities for today.

"Many things during the development have been very counter-intuitive for me, " said Tommaso Checchi, another member of the Minecraft team, in the video. The new "Minecraft" VR features the typical Lego-like graphics, but this time it has MSAA support for a crisp detail and a new rendering distance supported with Microsoft's DirectX 11.

For everyone who lives outside of the United States, the wait for the Oculus Rift has been long and fraught with frustration.
