National Football League threatens to suspend players in PED investigation

17 August, 2016, 00:55 | Author: Lula Armstrong

The NFL has been trying to interview the players for months but to no avail.

The NFL said it would suspend for an indefinite period four players who are now active and at the center of a probe by the league for performance enhancing drugs, if the players fail to give interviews to the league by August 25. "Are they going to suspend me, put me under investigation for being a pedophile just because somebody said it?"

Matthews and Peppers did not talk with reporters on Tuesday.

I respect Harrison for standing up to what seems to be an unfair inquisition based on a report that has since been retracted.

"I don't have a problem doing the interview". His involvement essentially allowed these transgressions by lesser-known players to slide under the rug as far as the general public is concerned, but the National Football League has been trying to pin down all of those players facing bans for an interview over the last several months to further investigate the issue.

The NFL is reportedly demanding that Matthews, Harrison and Peppers conduct interviews with the league, presumably in order to get to the truth behind the doping allegations.

The suspensions would begin August 26, according to the letter. On each occasion, the NFLPA has communicated the players' refusal to participate.

The four players did submit sworn affidavits, but the league asserts the statements were "wholly devoid of details" and the league accused Neal of lying in his affidavit, saying a statement in Neal's affidavit "is demonstrably false".

The league has established precedent in punishing players for non-compliance alone, as then-Vikings quarterback Brett Favre was fined $50,000 in 2010 for "failure to cooperate.in a forthcoming manner" in a league investigation into the alleged sending of an illicit photos to a New York Jets employee in 2008.

Harrison spoke to the media late this morning at training camp in Latrobe: "I'll do what I have to do, they'll do what they have to do, we'll make that decision when the time comes".

The suspensions would result from conduct detrimental and be separate from possible discipline the four players could face under the drug policies of the league, said the letter sent by Birch.

Chiefs offensive line play most important development out of first preseason game - Arrowhead Pride Our own MNChiefsfan reviewed the Kansas City Chiefs first team offensive line in the preseason loss to the Seattle Seahawks (which you should read here). "You'd rather have those players than not".

Birch cited Article 46 of the collective bargaining agreement in noting the discipline that can come for noncooperation or obstruction. The NFLPA issued a statement on behalf of the players named in the report, but Harrison and Matthews have gone out of their way to call the claims made "flimsy" and "bogus", respectively.
