Pursuit battle heats up as US, Britain trade records

Britain have now broken world records in both their rides at the 2016 Olympics, having also set a new best in qualifying on Thursday, and it looks nearly certain they will have to break it again to beat the Americans to gold.

The battle on the boards between Britain and the United States for Olympic women's team pursuit gold sizzled on Saturday as the two favourites traded world records in quick succession.

In doing so, 24-year-old Trott became the first British female athlete to win three gold medals - adding to the two she won at the London Olympics in 2012.
